Abstract
Marc Antoni
Director of the Rail System Department and the Rail System Forum of the UIC
Presentation title:
International maintenance from international perspective
Quote:
“It is important to meet and to build brotherhood in railway. We have more and more computerised systems and it is important to exchange knowledge and our data and to find a common language.”
Summary
Antoni earlier has emphasized that rail professionals should take the opportunity at the RailTech Europe Conference to share their ‘best practices’ so they know which technologies can reduce costs of the exploitation of rail and which can enhance security. At the conference he will focus on several key issues including asset management, the safety of signaling and maintenance of ERTMS. He will discuss the issue of cyber security on railways, especially with the use of new technology in the security system ERTMS.
Antoni’s view is that the systems which operators must develop, he added, should be ‘complicated, but not complex’. “Security is safety and safety is security – the two have to be considered together. The UIC is working on different guidelines that international railway undertakings can use in their daily operation.

Direction of the Rail System Department and the Rail System Forum of the UIC
The field of the rail System Department convers all the Technical aspeçts of infrastructure (track, Signalling, over headline, traffic, S&C) and Rolling stock (structures, motorisation, braking) including Asset Management, Traffic Management, Safety and Security management and Innovation Management. Direction of the UIC Railway Professional standardisation (IRS for International Railway Standardisation) in cohérence and complementarity with the other Normalisation Bodies (ISO, IEC, CEN) and Régulation Bodies (ÉRA, OSJD). Building bridges between continents for more brotherhood in railway.
Since 2007 SNCF – Infrastructure Direction
A head of the technological innovation and asset management department. In this department we are leading some technological and economical studies; these studies are in particular linked with the maintenance contract between RFF and SNCF, the optimisation of the maintenance rules, the balance between the maintenance and the renewal of the railways infrastructure (tracks, switch and crossing, signalling, over head lines…)
The department is in charge of the development of new maintenance methods or tools, new concepts in order to reduce the maintenance costs, to increase the quality and safety level. In particular, the Department is in charge of the elaboration and the parameterisation of maintenance need and costs models.

The RailTech Europe 2017 Conference will explore the following three themes:
- Day 1 – 28 March 2017: European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS)
- Day 2 – 29 March 2017: Digitalisation in Railways
- Day 3 – 30 March 2017: Maintenance of Rail Infrastructure
