ERTMS, ProRail position and challenges

Summary:
ProRail needs ERTMS to make the Dutch railway system future proof. However, there are some challenges ahead of us. The presentation will highlight the lessons learned regarding implementation and operation of ERTMS in the Netherlands together with the associated challenges.

Bio:
Karel van Gils has a long experience in the field of public transport. His current position is Executive Assetmanagement at ProRail (the Dutch infrastructure manager). In his previous position as Executive Technic at the Dutch GVB (….) he was responsible for infrastructure, trams en metro’s, ICT en large programs as the implementation of the Noth/Southline in the Netherlands.
Karel has also worked for NS; at Abellio in London; and as Excutive Maintenance in Germany.

Henri van Houten is working for ProRail, the Dutch infrastructure manager. His current position is Head of the ERTMS Expert Group (within the Assetmanagement – Signalling Department). He has more than 25 years of experience in the field of railway signalling, national and international. In Europe, he represents ProRail for ERTMS in the European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM) and the ERTMS Users Group. He is Chair of the EIM ERTMS working group.
