More railway for the money through data-driven maintenance

How can the massive amount of data that is collected on the infrastructure from various sources be used to make smarter maintenance? In this presentation the Danish set-up of the linear asset information management system IRISSYS will be presented. First a system overview of the data integration and connected systems will be given. Second, Rail Net Denmark is working on an R&D project with the purpose of replacing ballast drillings with ground penetrating radar (GPR). By combining GPR with master data and measurement data it is possible to make a much better input to the planning of renewal projects. This example of integrated use of different sources of data is used to make an illustrated example of how to get more railway for the money. Furthermore, an overview of other good examples will be given.

  • Linear asset management data integration
  • Strategic renewal planning with ground penetrating radar
  • Condition and prediction based planning of maintenance
